Global Limits of Biomass Energy

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/06/080611181214.htm

Picture: This picture gives some examples of sources for biomass energy.

Summary: My article discusses the pros and cons of biomass energy. Biomass energy is the burning of any wastes or living things to obtain energy. Biomass is a very good source of energy. It is an alternative to fossil fuels, is clean, and is renewable. It is also a good way to clear some of our waste, and make it useful. In fact, 30% of Brazil's car fuel comes from sugar cane. Although, biomass does have some problems too. To use biomass energy, we need a lot of space in abandoned crop fields which could be used for farming. We could also add gases to the atmosphere that could affect global warming, and we could threaten food supply.

Opinion/Reflection: I think that biomass is a great way to obtain energy. It is easy compared to other energy-obtainin methods, and helps get rid of some of our wastes. It is cheap and is a great alternative to fossil fuels. Although it does some problems, I believe that biomass would be a great way to obtain energy for our country.

Questions:
1) Do you think that using biomass is a good way to obtain energy?
2) How can you use biomass energy at home?
3) What do you think would be a better source of energy, if any?

I think that trying to explore alternate energy supplies are important because oil is short and other forms cause excessive pollution. However, I think there might need to be more research because we dont want to move into another area of resource without making very sure it is safe for the environment. We could end up with the same situtation of polluting our air and water. In conclusion, it sounds like a great idea but I wonder if it needs more research to definetly determine if it is safe.

    Question:
Has biomass been completely researched and has it been decided that it is safe for the environment?

  2. Reaction: Biomass does seem like a great renewable enrgy source, hearing it is used as a large percente of fuel in Brazil makes me wonder if any of our fuel is and why it shouldnt be.

2: Used for eletricity is the only way it can be

  3. Opinion:
I agree that biomass fuel is a great way to obtain energy and power our world. I am curious as to why we did not realize its potential earlier. It is a smart, relatively cheap, and highly renewable way to obtain energy and it will prove its worth in the near future.

Here is a good site that explains biomass and its use

    Questions:
    1) I think using seawater would be an awesome alternative. Im not sure how it would work, but it is practically free and there are tons of oceans full of it.
My Question 1)How long do you think it will take until everyone uses biomass?

Dispite some of the issues with biomass i think that it is a good alternative for fossil fuels. It's a bit cleaner, more plentiful and helps get rid of some of our wastes which we've been having trouble with lately. The pros seem to over-ride the cons in my opinion because even though it still pollutes it's not as bad as the other fossil fuels so i think we can afford to make the switch.

    Questions:
    3) I think that wind would make a nice alternative. I know we already are using this method but we could use it more. Wind has an unlimited and is a much environmentally friendly option.
